Abstract
Acute severe prolonged chest pain of cardiac origin that occurs during rest is termed an acute coronary syndrome. An
acute coronary syndrome may present as:
i. a new phenomenon: suddenly and unpredictably; or
ii. against a background of chronic stable angina.
